Now is the time to make contact with AmigoReal as we may have puppies available.
An AmigoReal Puppy
At AmigoReal, our puppies remain with us until at least 12 weeks of age. We have chosen this age because they will have passed their first fear period, which typically occurs between 8 and 11 weeks. During this stage, puppies can be more sensitive to new experiences, making early transitions stressful. By keeping them longer, we ensure they gain confidence in a stable environment before moving to their new homes.
For experienced Chihuahua owners, we may consider allowing a puppy to leave at 8 weeks by prior agreement.
Socialisation & Early Training
Your AmigoReal puppy will leave our home having been carefully socialised with people of all ages and, where possible, with other household pets, including dogs, cats, and rabbits. They will also be accustomed to the typical sights and sounds of everyday life. We expose them to various noises they may encounter later, such as aircraft and fireworks, to help desensitise them.
We ensure our puppies engage in fun, positive experiences while also introducing them to the basics of crate training and toilet training. This foundation helps prepare them to confidently adjust to their new homes.
While we provide a strong start in socialisation, it is essential that new owners continue this process. Chihuahuas require ongoing socialisation and clear boundaries to develop into well-adjusted companions.
Health & Registration
Your puppy will receive vaccinations at 8 and 12 weeks and will be health-checked and cleared by our veterinarian. Our vet was one of the founders of the Dogs New Zealand Accredited Breeder Scheme.
Each puppy will come with:
• Dogs New Zealand Pedigree Papers – Endorsed NOT TO BE SHOWN OR BRED, NOT ELIGIBLE FOR EXPORT CERTIFICATE (unless agreed otherwise in advance).
• Photos of both parents and copies of their health test results.
New Zealand Placements Only
If your puppy leaves after 12 weeks, they will be registered with our local council (Christchurch City Council), as it is a legal requirement for all puppies to be registered by 12 weeks of age under the Dog Control Act 1996 (NZ). Ownership will then be transferred to you.
All our puppies are microchipped and registered with the New Zealand Companion Animal Register, ensuring they have the best chance of being returned home safely if ever lost. We cover the cost of this registration.
