Puppies!

At AmigoReal, our puppies stay until at least 12 weeks of age. We chose this age as they will be past their initial fear period, which generally occurs as they would leave for their new homes at 8 weeks old (between 8-11 weeks).

If you are experienced with the breed and would like your puppy at 8 weeks, we are open to this with prior agreement.

Your AmigoReal puppy will leave our home having been carefully socialized with people of all ages and other household pets where possible; dogs, cats, rabbits etc, while also being exposed to typical everyday living. We also desensitize them to sounds they might experience later on, such as an aircraft, fireworks etc. We love to show them happy, fun activities while teaching them the basics like crate and toilet training to ensure they are well adjusted and ready to take on the big wide world with their new family.

Once leaving us, you will still need to continue socialization with your puppy. Although we have created a good foundation, socialization in this breed needs to be ongoing and they need to have boundaries in place to ensure a well-adjusted Chihuahua.

Your puppy will be vaccinated at 8 weeks and 12 weeks and health checked and cleared by our Vet. Our Vet is one of the Dogs New Zealand's Accreditation Scheme founders. 

They will come with their Dogs New Zealand pedigree papers endorsed: NOT TO BE SHOWN  OR BRED, NOT ELIGIBLE FOR EXPORT CERTIFICATE (unless agreed to prior) and photos of their parents and copies of their health results.

New Zealand Placement Only:

If your puppy leaves after 12 weeks, they will be registered with our local Council (Christchurch City Council), where transfer of ownership will be made. This is a legal requirement that puppies need to be registered by 12 weeks of age. 

Our puppies are microchipped and registered with the New Zealand Companion Animal Register, where transfer of ownership will be made. A one-off cost met by us, so if the unthinkable happens, your AmigoReal puppy will have the best chance to be returned home safely.
