Welcoming an AmigoReal Puppy

Every AmigoReal puppy is raised in our home with care, purpose and individual attention. From their earliest days, our focus is on nurturing their health, confidence and development while thoughtfully preparing them for life with their future family.

Welcoming an AmigoReal puppy is also the beginning of a lifelong relationship. We remain available to our puppy families for advice, reassurance and support throughout their dog's life. If an AmigoReal dog ever needs us, we will be here.

Our puppies generally remain with us until at least 12 weeks of age. The first few months of a puppy's life are an important period of behavioural development and socialisation. During this time, puppies learn rapidly from positive experiences while also becoming more sensitive to situations that are unfamiliar or overwhelming.

Keeping our puppies with us a little longer allows us to continue their socialisation, monitor their individual development and help prepare them for a smooth transition into their new home.

Every puppy develops at its own pace. As they grow, we spend time getting to know each puppy as an individual, allowing us to better understand its personality, confidence and temperament. This helps us carefully match each puppy with the family best suited to its individual temperament and needs. We believe thoughtful matching gives both the puppy and its new family the very best opportunity to thrive together.

For experienced Chihuahua owners, we may consider allowing a puppy to leave from eight weeks of age by prior agreement.

Socialisation and Early Development

Every AmigoReal puppy is raised as part of our household and experiences everyday life alongside us. They are introduced to people of different ages and, where possible, to other household pets including dogs, cats and rabbits.

Our puppies experience a variety of household sights and sounds together with positive exposure to situations they may encounter later in life. This may include travel, aircraft, fireworks, grooming and time spent in a crate. We also begin toilet training and introduce gentle handling as part of their normal routine. These experiences are introduced gradually and adapted to the confidence and development of each puppy.

While we provide a strong foundation, socialisation continues well beyond the day a puppy leaves our home. Ongoing positive experiences, patient training and consistent boundaries all help a Chihuahua develop into a confident and well adjusted companion.

Health and Registration

Before joining their new families, every AmigoReal puppy will:

Receive age-appropriate vaccinations.
Undergo a comprehensive veterinary health examination.
Be microchipped.
Be registered with Dogs New Zealand.
Be registered with the New Zealand Companion Animal Register.

Each puppy will also leave with:

Dogs New Zealand pedigree papers endorsed Not to be Shown or Bred and Not Eligible for Export Certificate, unless otherwise agreed before purchase.
Copies of both parents' health screening results.
Photographs of both parents.

If a puppy remains with us beyond 12 weeks and is being placed within New Zealand, they will also be registered with Christchurch City Council. Ownership of that registration will then be transferred to the new owner.

Our commitment extends well beyond the day your puppy leaves us. We genuinely enjoy receiving updates, celebrating milestones, and watching our puppies grow into much-loved companions.

Every AmigoReal puppy will always have a place within the AmigoReal family. If circumstances ever change and you can no longer care for your Chihuahua, we encourage you to contact us. Wherever possible, we will work with you to ensure every AmigoReal Chihuahua continues to receive the care and home they deserve.

Our lifelong commitment is also reflected in our Puppy Sales Agreement, which outlines the responsibilities of both breeder and owner, together with the health guarantees, lifetime support and rehoming commitments that accompany every AmigoReal puppy.
